Please support the below Go-Fund-Me, organized by the C-Note bar manager Barbara Rhind who has managed and worked at the club for over 30 years:

Recent History of The Club

For decades, during the heyday of music clubs in America, this club always booked national and regionally-known bands, together with local aspiring musicians. With a capacity for 200 people, the club easily could have gone for disco or Top-40 moneymakers. Instead, the owners and staff — especially the C-Note’s stage and sound manager, Greg Campia — took the harder but considerably more meaningful route by emphasizing original performance among musicians.

They also offered The C-Note as a venue opportunity for charity and civic-minded organizations to hold benefits for community causes. This is how I became associated with the club, as the organizer of annual Rat Beach Party where former Kenmore Square Rathskeller Club (The Rat) musicians would take the stage in the spirit of reunion. We’ve raised tens of thousands of dollars for Hull High’s music department. If we keep the club open, the next event will become The 8th Annual Rat Beach Party.

Generally, each charity event generates two to three thousand dollars, sometimes much more. The C-Note has helped the following: Hull High’s Music Department; the Wellsprings (food pantry) social service organization; Hull’s Seaside Animal Rescue Shelter; The Anchor Opiate Awareness & Support Center; The Innocence Project and numerous fire victims and storm victims over the years. And these are only the events where I’ve been involved. Over the years, there’s been many others.

We even helped support a high school rock band raise money so they could compete in the Cleveland Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame’s high school “Rock-Off,” where our favs, The Grenon Band, reached The Finals. The Hull High music director’s high school band once brought home a gold medal from a Washington DC competitive performance. Our organized C-Note events helped to provide these young musicians a sense of confidence for their performance.

1st Friday of The Month All-Ages Concerts

Myself w/high school-aged musicians

On the 1st Friday of every month we’d feature the Hull High Music Dept. jazz-combo band and three or four high school-aged rock bands. Often, these young budding musicians were taking the stage for their very first public performance ever. The 1st Friday Show would close with one of the former veteran Rat bands or one of the community’s local bands needing a gig.

One night, we helped the Dunn family of Hull, who desperately and quickly needed money to pay a critical vet bill to save their small dog which had been attacked by a much larger dog. The young musicians took a vote and voted to donate the money raised towards saving the dog. Oreo, the tiny bowser, was saved! The Dunn family, when finally able, graciously paid the money back and it went to high school’s music department.

Each of these 1st Friday events would raise between $500 and $1,000. Ongoing for four years, it eventually evolved to a point where the young musicians would decide where to donate the money raised from the event. Hull High’s music department always got a percentage when it performed for this monthly event and each musician who performed got a share unless they earmarked the money for a great cause.

News of The C-Note’s Closure

[BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: We’ve decided to try and save the club — Please help!]

Growing up on the North Shore at Hampton Beach, with 20 middle-aged years spent living in Cambridge/Boston and the past 20 residing at Nantasket Beach on the South Shore, and as one who has traveled widely all throughout New England, including a few jaunts across America, I must state the writer in the below article got one point seriously wrong. The writer frequently referred to The C-Note as among the “best on the South Shore.” This is plain wrong. The C-Note has been at the top of the list of concert clubs in all of New England!
