Mosquitoes & Politicians

— Don’t get bit and elect only the antidote politicians!

Throughout most of my life I’ve avoided the medical system, living a healthy life of athleticism and being in tune with nature always in ocean coastal environments. I lived on rollerblades and my go-to meal has always been fried clams. Who needs a menu!

But in my 60’s I got plagued with heart problems and other minor ailments. In essence, I became more a subject of my environment rather than someone in control of their environment. I haven’t liked this a single bit. However, now 70 years old, I hold nothing but praise for the medical care I’ve received at The Boston Medical Center. I am fortunate to live in Massachusetts!

So when I’d visit on medical appointments I’d always be asked: “Do you have any allergies?” My pat line response was always, “yes, mosquitoes and Republicans.” When Hillary Clinton began her campaign in 2015 (or was it when she was appointed secretary of state?) I was forced to add center and center-right Democrats to my list of allergies.

Politically, only JFK, MLK, Gene McCarthy, Shirley Chisholm, George McGovern, Jesse Jackson, Ralph Nader, Paul Wellstone, Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard have been my antidotes. Retroactively, I’ve added Jimmy Carter to my list.

Had policies of the above-named politicians come into fruition and become implemented in America, we wouldn’t be pricing our planet, we’d not be at war or involved with regime changes, working folks would enjoy greater income equality and poor folks would not have to live within a dangerous underground economy, this while banking on the right scratch ticket or winning lottery ticket.

The environment, housing, health care and education would have become prioritized. Racism would have been dealt with and met head-on, people wouldn’t have become orphans of our courts and folks wouldn’t be subjugated into urine testing as a consequence of a militarized freedom-draining drug war. America today, with 4.25% of the world’s population, imprisons one out of every five of the world’s prisoners.

Today, I live on a thin peninsular where the mosquitoes can’t hold their ground due to ocean breezes, and Democrats outnumber Republicans. I still have the problem of center and center-right Democrats, but I’m doing my best to try and change them.

Anyway, this isn’t about me or my political views. It’s about mosquitoes!

PS: Get Trump out of the presidency!
