Bernie Takes The Mound — Play Ball!

If you scroll the video ahead a bit, you’ll see Bernie actually take the mound and pitch. The first hitter banged a grounding liner drive to left. A few balls were hit well up the middle past his glove, and Bernie actually chased a weak grounder that went foul.

No question about it: Bernie’s in the game!

Clearly, he knows how to handle a ball glove. I wonder if he’s got a Wilson A-2000 — lol! He also appears as an okay softball pitcher throwing the ball always in the zone with a bit of lift to his pitch. If you look closely, you’ll note he’s putting spin on the ball when he delivers his pitches.

Bernie’s first time at the plate? The pitcher didn’t deliver any meatballs. Bernie swung and missed a couple of times and fouled off a pitch with two strikes on him to stay alive. Overall, he worked the count full and drew a walk. Next batter flied out and they actually tried to force Bernie at 1st, but he raced back to the base in time. Ahough he’s a 79-year-old presidential candidate, Bernie’s not getting any breaks on this ball field — lol!

Taking the mound for the second inning, Bernie would have had a one-two-three/retire-the-side inning, but the second basemen made an error by holding the ball too long. First batter popped to the catcher, the second batter popped to the first baseman. Next came the error and the fourth batter popped out also. Bernie pitched a scoreless inning and you could tell his spin on the ball was creating the pop-ups.

Bernie’s team got a couple of base runners on in the bottom of the second but couldn’t produce a run. So Bernie came out to pitch the top-of-the-third, his team down 4 to 0. Bernie even dove after a weakly-hit grounder to the third-base side, but he wouldn’t have been able to have made the play anyways — it was sort of running against Hillary Clinton’s rigged 2016 primary.

The softball game was similar to the 2016 election where Bernie faced great odds. In this 2020 softball game it was Bernie’s team comprised of little-leaguers and senior citizens against a team of high school athletes. Still, Bernie played to win!

Not bad, Bernie! Win for America! Bring back the American Dream! Make attending a big league ball park affordable again!

PS: This ball game even had a major league organ player performing in between innings — a true Field of Dreams!
